![]() Rating: - It Works Well - Just not Right Out of The BoxI got this unit as a package deal with my Toshiba E205 Satellite Laptop. The Netgear Push2TV box has to get a firmware update before use. I didn't read the little slip of paper that comes in the box with the Netgear unit and tried to make it work, it won't! It looks like the picture is out of sync. I was ready to take it back, but thought I would at least look at the papers that came with it. That's when I found the little slip of paper that states you have to upgrade the firmware BEFORE USE! How sad is that? Not that it is a hard thing to do, just the fact that the end user has too. That said, downloading the newer firmware was easy along with installation. Once completed this unit works great for me. I've tested it up to 25 feet away with no issues. My primary use is photo and video sharing with senior family members. It puts it on a screen big enough that they can see easly and the fact that "It's on TV", seems to excite them. Fact of the matter, young and old ... I was happy to get it since I always watch favorite shows and movies on my computer. It was really easy setting this up and connecting it to my laptop. And the quality and speed is great "when it works"! It connects easily but disconnects on its own after 10-15 minutes of use! Then I have to stop the connection and reconnect to get the image back on TV. Would be a 5 star, if it didn't disconnect, even when the laptop is right by the adapter. Ease of use: 5 star Reliability: 1 star Rating: - Useless...so farI bought this item as part of the bundle Amazon offered on the Asus Bamboo laptop. It was relatively easy to setup, but I have encountered nothing but problems since attempting to actually make it work. I have updated the firmware and the drivers as specified by Netgear. However, everytime I connect the laptop to my television the WiDi application automatically resizes the display on my laptop. Annoying, but whatever. After that, the application goes on to lockup my laptop to the point of requiring a hard boot. Netgear support has succeeded in repeating everything I say to them back twice to me, but that is it so far. Conclusion: Product does not do what it is supposed to. From the looks of it (what with a firmware upgrade and "critical" driver updates right out of the box) this appears to be a half-baked, buggy offering. Wish I would have known before hand. Rating: - Might as well just get a long HDMI cable...I tried the NETGEAR Push2TV with the ASUS U43JC laptop, and the quality is terrible on my LG 32" HDTV. For some of you who might have did some study on this Intel WIDI technology would know that there are about 1~2 second delay on the TV display from your laptop. My initial thought was to just use this for video instead of gaming, but even video has terrible lag and artifact. I have tried to use it from 1 foot away as well as 10 feet away, the quality of the video did not change, and it still produces choppy video. My final thought is that this product works if you just want to show some photos and maybe powerpoint presentation; however, to play simple videos or games will not be adequate. Do yourself a favor and get a $5 10-feet HDMI cable instead of this $100 adapter. Rating: - Lousy Connection, On-Off, Sound Does Not Work on TVI initially got this as part of Amazon's bamboo 14 inch laptop promo. This is entirely a scam. This is not worth the [...]. Heck, this isn't even worth [...]. Intel's wireless display technology is abysmal. This is pathetic. Seriously. They need to develop the thing more fully before they put it on the market. It's a disgrace to Intel. The connection repeatedly breaks on and off. It isn't even clear. I think VGA is clearer than this. Also, the sound does not work on the TV. I put it close to my laptop and had a clear line of sight, but still no luck. I sent this and the crappy Asus laptop back to Amazon. What a scam. |
