IE browser vulnerabilities

Microsoft is warning all users of its Internet Explorer web browser to immediately apply the latest security patch as a precaution against malicious hacker attacks. As part of its Patch Tuesday releases, the company shipped a high-priority IE update (MS12-010) which covers four documented vulnerabilities that could be used in drive-by downloads with minimal user action.

Digitech iStomp

OK! Digitech you are losing me.
I like iPhone, Interaction, Interfacing, etc..
What I don’t like is complete proprietary managed solutions.

I have been a fan of Digitech for many years,
but the products they have been introducing the past few years is really annoying.
I love products that interface together for extra features, but this has gone too far.

Here’s what it means to me:

• Must have an iPhone, iPod, iPad to use your iStomp pedal
• Must download and install Digitech Stomp Shop app
• Must then purchase, download, install each stomp model from the Stomp Shop
• Must keep up to date iTunes
• Must rely on iTunes to keep your purchases safe & proofed
• Must also have the iStomp to use your purchases
• This one’s a question, Do you also need an iStomp for each effect you want to use?

why not just buy a stomp box, seems easier and safer.
I mean who in the world wants a product that relies on several other products to function correctly.

Just for kicks I went to my iPhone 3Gs with IOS5,
Opened the appstore, searched for “Digitech Stomp”
and downloaded and installed the free Digitech Stomp app.

The big question is, How much will all this cost?
• MSRP $229.95us – $149.99us Retail for each iStomp
• Free Digitech Stomp Shop for IOS
• $4.99 / $6.99 / $9.99 for each Stomp Box Model.

So that’s approx: $165-$170 per pedal.

Now I can only speak for me, but I use at least 5 effects at one time, and several more to make certain sounds.
Several Distortions, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Noise Gate, Reverb, Pitch Control, Expression, etc..
So I would need to purchase at least 5 iStomps to get my rig going?
$800.00us + the IOS device if I don’t already have one could be a grand.
And I use even more effects then that. So as long I purchased at least 5 iStomps and 10 or so Stomp box apps
I would have a setup, then I would need to change 2 or 3 at a time to get certain sounds.
Not wise for a live setup, and to time consuming for someone with little time.

I won’t knock this invention, it is really kool.
But my question is Where are the real effects processors for people like me.
They just keep making IOS effects, No new gear like GNX4, GNX3000, or even the RP models.
I guess the RP1000 and GSP1101 will need to hold itself for a while.
As for me, I will be keeping my GNX4, GNX3000, BP200 for a while, unless something real comes out.

** After thinking about it a little more, it’s not a bad idea.
But the fact it’s limited to IOS (eg.. iPhone, iPod, iPad) is still annoying.
I think if this was programmable with PC/Windows, Mac etc… then it would make more sense to me..
As for Android I understand the complications, brought to my attention by Digitech on Facebook.
BTW, I am an iPhone user.
The fact you can upgrade this unit to a new pedal for 5 to 10 bucks is a major plus.
I still think it’s a bit over priced for a pedal, but if you need to replace one. It’s really very inexpensive.
And you can switch it back.

So if you are an IOS user, and don’t mind spending a little extra to get the extra features,
Then this is for you. On the other hand,
If you are a PC user, and do not have an IOS device, I would look elsewhere.

Facebook to sell stock

Watching the news I found out that Internet Giant “Facebook” will be selling stock to the public.
It is thought that Facebook will soon be worth upwards of 100 Billion Dollars.

Go Facebook.

Facebook, in one of the world’s most widely anticipated IPOs, or initial public offerings of stock, filed papers this afternoon to raise at least $5 billion and begin to sell stock this spring.

The filing was made online with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington.  If all goes as planned, it will likely take until May for Facebook stock to begin trading on a stock exchange.

“There is a huge need and a huge opportunity to get everyone in the world connected, to give everyone a voice and to help transform society for the future,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, in a letter that accompanied the filing. “The scale of the technology and infrastructure that must be built is unprecedented, and we believe this is the most important problem we can focus on.

“We hope to strengthen how people relate to each other,” he said.

Zuckerberg, now 27, famously started Facebook when he was a student at Harvard University in 2004.  Today, it has more than 800 million active users, and Zuckerberg said they have made more than 100 billion connections with each other.

Facebook, along the way, has made a lot of money.  It revealed in today’s filing that in 2011 it had profits of $1 billion on sales of $3.7 billion.

Facebook IPO: Social Network to Go Public
Facebook Going Public?
Facebook Prepares for IPO

“It is a major sign of maturation” for Facebook to go public, said Lawrence Summers, the former secretary of the Treasury who was president of Harvard when Zuckerberg began Facebook. “It means more cash flow, it means even more visibility, it means even more responsibility to shareholders, but also to the broader society.

“It is both a recognition of what has been accomplished, and it points to the fact that Mark Zuckerberg has done a remarkable thing in building a global institution in a very short time,” said Summers.

Several major investment banks are involved in the IPO, with Morgan Stanley in the lead role.  Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Barclays Capital and JP Morgan are also included.

Analysts said that this offering will change the Internet sector, creating what will be one of the world’s most valuable Internet companies.

“Will Facebook’s IPO be the biggest IPO in American history? Probably not,” said David Kirkpatrick, author of “The Facebook Effect.”  “But it will certainly be, by far, the biggest Internet or technology IPO we’ve ever seen.”

Others warned that Facebook may not be a surefire winner for small investors looking to make some quick money. Certainly, Facebook has been profitable, but it has already made a great deal of money as a private company.  It has more than 800 million active users — up 45 percent in 2011 — but growth in the United States and other Western countries has already begun to slow.  Most of its recent growth in membership has been in countries such as Brazil and India.

Why go public now, anyway? Since Facebook already has more than 500 investors, it is required to make certain financial information public anyway under SEC regulations. The deadline to file this information expires in April.

Zuckerberg reportedly decided to go public once it became clear that the company had become too big to keep its finances private. By going public, Facebook loses some of its mystery and cool, having to declare profits and losses and answer to shareholders every quarter. But the company will have access to new cash and can use the value of its stock to acquire other companies and to reward its employees.

Many of Facebook’s 3,000 employees could now become Silicon Valley millionaires.  Zuckerberg, himself, is already said to be the world’s youngest billionaire.  The SEC filing showed that he asked to reduce his salary to $1 per year starting next Jan. 1.

“We believe that we have an opportunity to have an important impact on the world and build a lasting company in the process,” he wrote in his letter today.

We won. 103,785 A total of 103,785 people signed We the People petitions asking the Obama Administration to protect an open and innovative internet. A petition asking President Obama to veto the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) got 51,689 signatures, while 52,096 people signed the “Stop the E-PARSITE Act” petition. Congress is debating a number of bills, including these two, that deal with the issue of online piracy. Today, several web sites joined together in a virtual strike against SOPA and other piracy legislation by shutting down or going dark. Over the weekend, the White House responded to the petitions explaining that while online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, attempts to combat it must not reduce freedom of expression, increase cybersecurity risk, or undermine the dynamic, innovative global Internet: Moving forward, we will continue to work with Congress on a bipartisan basis on legislation that provides new tools needed in the global fight against piracy and counterfeiting, while vigorously defending an open Internet based on the values of free expression, privacy, security and innovation. Dino Dell Inspiron 1100 P4

I aquired a dinosaur laptop the other day, just for fun.
This laptop makes me appreciate my gaming rig.

Believe it or not, this old laptop is very responsive to the operating system,
still great for browsing the web, email, etc..
it’s when you try to use programs that it shows it’s weakness.
this laptop scored 1132 out of 1281 computers,
Where my gaming rig scores about 50 for the CPU Mark,
lol…. but it’s still fuctional, very functinal.
Great for looking up information on a 14.1″ screen vs the iPhone’s tiny display.
and also having more abilities. In fact it can still sync with the iPhone using iTunes.

Just for fun I ran PassMark to see the results:

  • Compltet Result – 185.8
  • CPU Mark – 318.6
  • 2D Graphics – 235.7
  • 3D Graphics – 30.1
  • Memory Mark – 271.2
  • Disk Mark – 149.4
